Maj 4 Mammaries is a group of women focused on raising funds for breast cancer.

On Sunday, October 25, 2009, Maj 4 Mammaries will be hosting its third event - an afternoon of mahjong, bridge and board games. This event will celebrate the women in our lives who have conquered breast cancer, support those who are battling the disease today, and remember those we have lost. Our 2009 event will be honouring the memory of Rickey Fitzerman, a founding member and tireless contributor to Maj 4 Mammaries.

This year, we are raising funds for the Odette Cancer Centre’s PYNK at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. PYNK is a breast cancer program for young women diagnosed under the age of 40. Led by Dr. Ellen Warner, PYNK is the first of its kind in Canada, which addresses the unique medical and psychosocial needs of these women. About 5% of all breast cancer patients a year are 40 years or younger at diagnosis.

We have a wonderful track record… In October 2007 we were able to donate almost $100,000  to Women's College Hospital Foundation, with specific assistance given to the research efforts of Dr. Steven Narod. Dr. Narod works with families who have inherited a gene associated with breast cancer. Without prevention, about 80% of women with this gene will develop cancer - often before age 50. Dr. Narod's work is focused on prevention by exploring ways to help healthy genes compensate.

Our inaugural event was also a wonderful success.  A donation of over $65,000 was given in the form of start up funds for a breast cancer program at Sunnybrook and Women's College Hospital focused on the unique needs of women under 45.

With your participation and  support, we hope to surpass our previous achievements

Together, we can make this years Maj 4 Mammaries event a resounding success.
